Construction Kicks Off in The River District: Charlotte's Premier Master-Planned Community

DRB Homes is excited to kick off construction on model homes in The River District, a 1,400-acre mixed-use, master-planned community nestled between the banks of the Catawba River and Charlotte-Douglas International Airport that organically blends urban life with the city’s first public riverfront park.

The River District is designed to connect city living to outdoor experiences. Adding to Charlotte’s distinct neighborhoods and diverse housing options, The River District will be one of the city’s most dynamic and vibrant neighborhoods.

Proximity to the area’s highways and interstates makes regional travel convenient, and the central business district in Uptown Charlotte is a short 15-minute drive away, making it easy to enjoy Charlotte’s attractions and business community. 

Crescent Communities, a nationally recognized market-leading real estate developer recently announced the four builders selected to build Westrow, the much-anticipated 70-acre town center and first phase of residential space.   

DRB Homes, along with David Weekley Homes, Saussy Burbank, and Toll Brothers will bring 129 single family homes and townhomes to Westrow.

Westrow residences will represent two distinct aesthetic styles: Farm and Town. Inspired by traditional farmhouses, farm-style homes will showcase light, neutral color palettes and wraparound porches that evoke a sense of rustic charm. In contrast, the townhomes will boast contemporary features such as brick masonry, contemporary metal roofs, and darker neutral tones for an earthy, modern aesthetic. 

DRB Homes will be constructing townhomes as well as detached single-family homes on 40-and 50-foot-wide homesites. Construction on model homes is expected to begin as soon as January 2025, with delivery of the first homes anticipated by spring 2025.

The Masterplan includes:

  • 8,000,000 SF office space
  • 500,000 SF retail space
  •  2,350 multifamily residential units
  •   2,300 single-family residential homes
  • 550 acres of open space
  • 200 assisted living residential units
  • 75 acres for civic use

Amenities will include resident-only pools, a clubhouse, 30+ miles of trails to riverfront accessibility, dog parks, a playground, a working 2-acre sustainable farm, an orchard, and an on-site farmer.
