Martinsburg, West Virginia: Where Modern Life Meets Community and History
Are you considering a move to the Eastern Panhandle? Martinsburg, West Virginia, could be the perfect place for your next life chapter! Founded in 1778 by General Adam Stephen, Martinsburg has played a significant role in West Virginia's history as a central hub for transportation and production while offering big-city conveniences and small-town charm. With its many local spots, there's always something for everyone, not to mention the town's enduring legacy and commitment to history. This community also boasts well-preserved historic buildings, and the area is continually growing. From scenic parks to the many dining options and exciting seasonal events, Martinsburg will surely win your heart.
Embrace the Great Outdoors
Martinsburg's commitment to green spaces and outdoor activities is evident, as it has well-kept parks and trails. From Oatsdale Park to War Memorial Park, these are excellent facilities for spending time with the family on an outing, picnics, or even playing sports. Frog Hollow Trail, newly opened and part of a multi-phased project, offers a picturesque plunge into nature. This trail's first leg allows you to come and enjoy the natural beauty of Martinsburg.
The Frog Hollow Trail builds on the legacy of the Frog Hollow Rail Spur, built in the 1880s to connect Martinsburg's Train Station with the Standard Lime and Stone Company. This rail line was operated for about 140 years, serving local industry through the B & O Railroad and CSX.
In 2021, the rail removal process took place. Argos USA, LLC and CSX Transportation, LLC generously donated the rail spur to the City of Martinsburg to be converted into a multi-modal recreational trail. Future expansions include the Creekside Trail, the Frog Hollow Trail to Oatsdale Park, and the Lake Thomas connector, which connects Oatsdale Park to Lake Thomas and War Memorial Park. The Frog Hollow Trail project aims to create a network that connects Martinsburg's parks, communities, and historic sites.
