With exteriors fitting the Lowcountry, enjoy the outdoors with your choice of a front and/or rear porch. From here, you can casually reach one of Berkeley County’s recreational areas that is accessible to Creekside at Andrews through a community boardwalk.

Natural Beauty and Outdoor Activities in Summerville
You don’t get known as “The Flower Town of the Pines” for nothing. Summerville prides itself on acres of flowers, groves of pine trees, and explosions of azaleas on every corner. It’s got so much nature, in fact, that it’s an official Tree City USA community!
To really soak up all the natural beauty, make sure to visit Azalea Park. Found in Downtown Summerville, this park sits on 16 acres of azalea-filled splendor. You’ll also enjoy ponds (where, if you’re lucky, you can spy some turtles), picnic benches, a gazebo, and several bronze sculptures. Azalea Park is also fittingly home to the annual Flowertown Festival (more on that below).
Another place that’s amazing to visit to highlight Summerville’s bond with nature is the Sawmill Branch Multi-Use Trail. This 6.9-mile paved trail is 10 feet wide and runs along the Sawmill Branch Canal through woods in the southern part of Summerville. It’s a fantastic place to get some exercise while also admiring local wildlife, such as egrets, heron, and maybe even alligators!
Gahagan Park is also a must-visit destination, perfect for the whole family. Of course, there are picnic areas and trails to connect everything in the park, but there’s also the Jerry Blackwell Sports Complex with multiple soccer/football fields and baseball diamonds (including concessions spaces for bigger, tournament games). And, there’s a fenced wooden playground full of all sorts of things for children to explore, such as ropes, ladders, monkey bars, and even a climbing castle!
Shopping and Dining in Summerville
Summerville is full of the Southern charm you desire, and nowhere is it more evident than in its shopping and dining options. Along the historic streets of Downtown Summerville, you’ll find a wide array of unique places to shop, like antique stores, country chic boutiques, independent bookstores, and galleries full of treasures by local artists and artisans.
There are also many delicious places to eat. From the fine dining at Hall’s Chophouse, to the decadent desserts of BKeDSHoP, to the restaurant/retail/recreation of The Pickle Bar, to the deliciously simple Southern menu of Page’s Okra Grill, Summerville is ready to fill you up with every cuisine you can imagine. Plus, you can drink (and eat) your way through The Sweet Tea Trail, celebrating the beverage that started here and became a Southern staple.
Summerville wouldn’t truly be a small town without a farmers’ market! Open every Saturday from April through December, The Summerville Farmers’ Market is your one-stop shop for fresh and local produce, meats, seafood, baked goods, arts & crafts, and all other sorts of artisan products. And it’s right downtown in the parking lot in front of First Citizens Bank!
Arts and Entertainment in Summerville
Being a small town, Summerville shines when it comes to arts and entertainment opportunities that are created by and support the local community. One of the backbones of Summerville’s community entertainment scene is The Flowertown Players. Offering plays, musicals, special youth productions, and classes for all ages, The Flowertown Players provide many different ways to join in, learn, and contribute to the enjoyment and enrichment of the community.
The sounds of Summerville come alive with the Summerville Orchestra. Since its founding in 2003, this volunteer community orchestra has grown into one of the largest in the nation. It offers large concert performances, chamber performances, a youth orchestra, an educational series, and even a podcast! Music is a universal language, and the Summerville Orchestra uses it to help knit the community even tighter together.
Summerville is also a town of celebration, with many festivals taking place every year. The big two commemorate the town’s claims to fame. First, there’s The Flowertown Festival which is a fundraiser for the local YMCA, and started in 1973! This festival highlights all the colors of the town’s natural beauty. It’s so popular that folks from all over come to see the buds and the blooms, as well as marvel at local arts and crafts.
And second, there’s Summerville’s Sweet Tea Festival, an annual event to celebrate the birthplace of this essential Southern libation. For the festival, Historic Downtown turns into a giant open house and street fair with food trucks, vendors, and entertainment. Plus, of course, all the sweet tea you can drink. You can even vote and help select the Tea of the Year!
